Courtney over at New Media Strategies has shared new clips [Please note: unfortunately, the video clips are no longer available] and some information in anticipation of the March 3 airing of the new History Channel series, Vikings. We say “Thanks, Courtney!” She says:

About VIKINGS:

The extraordinary tales of the lives and epic adventures of these warriors are told in VIKINGS, a new nine-part scripted series premiering Sunday, March 3 at 10 p.m. (ET) on HISTORY®. The drama portrays the world of these Dark Age raiders, traders, explorers – not from an outsider’s view, but, through the eyes of Viking society.

While VIKINGS is filled with conflict, warfare and bloodshed – for these were extreme times – it is a family saga at heart. It follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel, The Beast, Baytown Outlaws), a curious, compelling  man who is always looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer. A young farmer and family man, Ragnar is deeply frustrated by the unadventurous policies of his local chieftain, Earl Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment, Usual Suspects, Millers Crossing), who continues to send his Vikings raiders east every summer, to the Baltic states and Russia, whose populations are as materially poor as themselves.

VIKINGS will chart Ragnar’s ambitions to discover civilizations across the great ocean to the west as well as his inevitable conflicts along the way. With the help of his jester friend Floki, (Gustaf Skarsgard, The Way Back), they build a new generation of boats – faster, sleeker and more beautifully crafted than anything else on the sea.

History Channel’s scripted series Vikings begins March 3.

Everyone is excited to see this new series and Gabriel Byrne fans are especially pumped to see their favorite play–what? The evil leader of a Viking band? The forward-thinking inspired leader of a Viking band? Or a complicated man dealing with change, leading his people, and trying to uphold tradition?

It seems likely that the Viking role for Mr. Byrne will be the “complicated man.” One look at this face tells you the story in itself is going  to be complex and engrossing. This is not a sword-and-sandal epic. This is the History Channel, for pete’s sake!

In this group of official promotional shots, we also have an exclusive behind-the-scenes picture of Mr. Byrne courtesy of Rustosaurus Rex, AKA @Rusty325 on Twitter. He was an extra on the set of Vikings and reports that he had a great time!

I can’t look into those eyes without tears in mine. What an absolutely stunning man.

  2. Is there any chance you could make a Gabriel Viking Wallpaper Stella?

    • Just one? ;-)

I am working on a wallpaper today. Stay tuned! And thanks for asking, Nora. I’m not making many wallpapers these days–too busy posting about Mr. Byrne in all his “busy-ness”! Whew! I hope he takes a little vacation soon so I can stop typing…
      :-)

  3. Two or three or 20 wallpapers would be even better
I just wanted to be modest Stella…
And one Viking Earl Wallpaper would be better than none. I think he looks terrific as a Viking.

It will be interesting to hear how he sounds like a Viking. If he wants to learn English with a Norwegian accent I could learn him that…

  4. You did it!
    Thanks Stella, it looks great.

    • Thanks, Nora!

The new Vikings wallpaper is in the Flickr stream. You can see it on the homepage.

I will make more, but I’m waiting for higher resolution images to be released. These little pictures do not blow up very well! And we need our Vikings to be Large and In Charge, yes?

      ;-)

  6. OMG! OMG! OMG!

  7. I can not come inside the Byrneholics Forum here anymore.
Is it the same for everybody?

  8. No, Nora. Nothing wrong here.

  9. Thanks for answering DeMonk.
For me the forum is locked…
    Sad Nora

    • Nora, sorry for the inconvenience! I’ve posted an update here on the main site about the work we are doing in the Forum.

Your patience is appreciated. The Forum should be fixed soon!

      :-)
