And what better way to spend this spooky night than sitting at home (preferably alone–being alone is so much spookier than being at a party or on a date with someone who might be able to protect you!), drinking a little of whatever scares you the most, with the lights turned down (waaaay down) and Gabriel Byrne’s distinctive voice wafting through the house (or your headphones. Yes. Headphones. Go find the headphones!), frightening the bejeezus out of you!

Yes. I thought you would say that.

So, here he is, reciting Poe’s immortal The Masque Of The Red Death, from the 1997 CD Closed on Account of Rabies: Poems and Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, a remarkable collection of readings by an eclectic group of performers. You can read more about it at the Audiobooks Page.

Remember: Alone. Drink in hand. Lights down low. Headphones if you’ve found them. Ok. Cue Mr. Byrne!

Have a scary but safe Halloween, everyone! surprised

The only thing I really like is: Come a little closer… :-D

  2. Well, Verónica, I did a posting in 2011 for Halloween. You might like it better:

    Trick or Treat! :-)

Well Stella, I have to say I watched all these films (I want not to say, scared me,) but some disliked me, Ghost Ship. The rest, didn’t move a single hair on my head.
The other was Gothic where Gabriel’s mouth is full of blood. brrrrr.
Stigmata liked me very much, and The End of Days too. Spider had some scenes that were unpleasent but not scary.
The final sensation is 50% and 50%. Now have to wait for Victor Dashkov… I am sure this character will not be my prefered one :-)

  3. I only wish I could have a drink in hand and good food and just to listen to his voice but I’ve got the flu so bed and Ambien. Try to sleep through this. Have a great day to all and be safe!!!!!

    • Kari, I hope you feel better soon.

Perhaps if you did listen to Gabriel read Poe, he might scare the cold out of you!

Take good care of yourself! :-)

  4. Get well soon.

  5. I don’t like Haloween celebration, so I agree 100% with Veronica who said:

The only thing I really like is: Come a little closer…
