- In Treatment, Season 3 [completed 2010]
Season Three is reported to begin filming in New York City in the early months of 2010 and the episodes are expected to be available for viewing on HBO in late 2010.
No word yet on the new cast members. Returning is, of course, Gabriel Byrne, as lead actor AND executive producer. New showrunners Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein will be joining producer Paris Barclay in bringing the next installments of this unique series to life.
- Gabriel Byrne: Stories From Home [completed, now on the festival circuit]
Directed by well-known Irish documentarian Pat Collins, this is Gabriel Byrne as we have never before seen him. LA2Day had this to say, after a showing of the film at the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival in September, 2009:
“A full ninety minute piece that draws the rascal, the comedian and the person out. The movie fuses together a poetic and playful side of Gabriel Byrne and merges it with the father and the husband… Mr Byrne was at ease with the camera as he spoke of his life experiences, his dealings with depression and the victory over alcohol. His marriage, his passions, his children and his desire for a certain anonymity in his life were all explored with the subtle detail of a painter layering his canvas.”
“Stories From Home” continues to make its way through various film festivals. And we continue to hope for a wide release of the film someday soon.
- At Swim-Two-Birds [in development]
Flann O’Brien’s wildly comic book, first published in 1951, is being brought to the screen by Brendan Gleeson (direction and screenplay) and a line-up of Irish actors that is sure to bowl us over with their charm and–dare it be said?–their brooding good looks: Gabriel Byrne, Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Filming is set for sometime in 2010.
- I, Anna [in development]
Barnaby Southcombe and Embargo Films are bringing the novel “I, Anna”, by Elsa Lewin, to the screen, with a script by Southcombe. Charlotte Rampling will play the lead, Anna Welles, and Gabriel Byrne is slated to portray Detective Chief Inspector Bernie Kominski, described as “an insomniac dazed by the prospect of divorce”, who will follow Anna Welles, a femme fatale suspect in a brutal murder. Shooting locations in London include Vauxhall, Pimlico and Southbank and filming should begin later in 2010.
- In With The Outlaws [in development]
Directed by Richard E. Grant. With Gemma Arterton, Gabriel Byrne, Timothy Spall. A comedy western in which a sheriff is born into a family of outlaws.
- Tent City [announced as one of 4 documentaries to be part of Oprah Winfrey's documentary club on her new network, OWN]
Executive producers Gabriel Byrne and Leora Rosenberg, producer/director Steven Cantor and Stick Figure Productions present TENT CITY, a documentary exploring homelessness in Nashville, Tenn. With the economic recession, a growing number of people are finding themselves in a position they never imagined, homeless. TENT CITY explores a community of nearly 100 homeless individuals who live under a downtown bridge. The group is self-sustained and self-governed. They work to stay together after a devastating flood destroys their land and forces them to evacuate. As a result of the disaster, for the first time in Nashville history, the municipally run Homeless Commission has opened one seat on its council to a resident of Tent City. This opportunity will allow the winning Tent City individual the chance to spearhead the search for a new location. TENT CITY will follow the four candidates as they vie for election and the process of moving the camp and keeping the community together. “Shelter and home are the most basic human and fundamental human rights, yet increasingly in one of the world’s wealthiest societies, more and more of us are losing our homes. How we address this social epidemic may very well determine our future. This isn’t an abstract concept but a reality millions of Americans confront every day. Our sons, our daughters, our fathers and mothers are the homeless,” says executive producer Gabriel Byrne.
