The AIA Gala

Mr. Byrne hosts the Archaeological Institute of America’s Annual Gala Tuesday, April 26, at Capitale in New York City. This Imagine Ireland event includes a Contemporary Gaelic Feast (yum!) and Irish poetry, dance, and spirits. We will share any pictures of this event that come our way!

Ellen Barkin interview

The ex-Mrs. Byrne is starring on Broadway and The New York Times wanted to hear all about it (as do we)!

The Times notes that “she married the Irish heartthrob Gabriel Byrne.” We agree with the “heartthrob” assessment, of course.

Following in her ex-husband’s footsteps, she has filmed a TV series pilot. And on April 27, she will make her Broadway debut in Larry Kramer’s play, The Normal Heart.

About their children:

“They’re great, they’re extraordinary and Gabriel and I really did it together,” she said. (Byrne has never remarried.) “We have every kid’s birthday together and both of our birthdays with the kids,” she went on. “Any time I cook a holiday meal, Gabriel comes here, and Christmas is usually his holiday, so then I go there. I know I’ve said this before, but I don’t think a marriage has to last forever to be successful, and I think we had a good marriage and we managed to keep what was good about it alive for 25 years. I have enormous respect for him, and I would say it’s reciprocated. He was extremely supportive of me during some very difficult times. And he’s a great father to our kids.” She smiled, sort of. “I kept every piece of jewelry he ever gave me.”

Those who have watched his performance know how extraordinary he really is. The Emmys may pass him by, but his achievement is noted by those who care about acting, stories, and the human spirit. So there!

One commenter notes that the film is available via Netflix streaming, so if you have not seen it, now is your chance. He reports that the quality is good and it is also showing in widescreen. TG4 on Imagine Ireland

This is a promotional video and interview [Note: the TG4 Live website no longer exists] with several players in the Imagine Ireland sandbox. Mr. Byrne is hardly in it, but that’s okay. Eugene Downes, of Culture Ireland, and critic Robert Sullivan are among those telling us all about Imagine Ireland. You get a sense of the scope and power of this cultural initiative and you also get to hear a lot of spoken Gaelic! Unfortunately it cannot be embedded, and we have no idea how long this video might be available, so hop over to channel TG4 and give it a view.
