Filming has moved to Eastern Ontario now and Brian Gleeson has joined the team!

Brian Gleeson will play the father of Gabriel’s character. Hmmm. How will THAT work? We must wait and see! wink

Production continues in Montreal on this Leonard Cohen-inspired film, despite reported record spring flooding and the WGA fight taking place in the US. Filming in Canada should wrap up at the end of May and the production will move on to Galway, in Ireland, for the remainder.

I’ve not yet traveled to Montreal, which by all accounts is a lovely city, but I have been to Galway and I’m seriously envious that our favorite Irishman is heading there now. It’s a fabulous town. He’s been there many times, of course, so this will be a homecoming of sorts for him, which is lovely.

Montreal Gazette, April 24: Hollywood stars set to descend on Montreal this spring

Irish actor Gabriel Byrne is in town filming Death of a Ladies Man, an independent production written and directed by former Montrealer Matthew Bissonnette and inspired by the work of Leonard Cohen. The film will include several Cohen songs.
Byrne plays a womanizing university professor in the midst of a mid-life crisis who goes back to the family cottage in Ireland and meets the woman of his dreams. The cast also includes Irish actor Brian Gleeson and several Quebec thespians, notably Suzanne Clément, Antoine Olivier Pilon, Karelle Tremblay and Pascale Bussières.

Included in this article is a portrait by photographer Normand Blouin from 2006. Warning: swooning may occur.

A member of the cast had some nice things to say about his experience working with Gabriel on this film:

You might recognize Mr. Sotelo from his work on Star Trek: Discovery. I love it when my favorite things collide in real life.

Later, Xavier shared these two pictures of the cast and crew:

Finally, we know Gabriel found a great restaurant in Montreal. And now we know he also found a great bookstore! At least I think it is a bookstore…

In addition to being a Gabriel Fan, Ahmad is also a poet.

More filming news as it happens! heart

Thanks for this news and beautiful pics Stella. I am wondering who is “the woman of his dreams” in this movie, better said, who plays that role.
Personally I visited Montreal, many years ago, when Gabriel was nearly a child yet, because I had relatives there.
Stella, I have to say you are funny to tell “Finally, we know Gabriel found a great restaurant in Montreal. And now we know he also found a great bookstore! At least I think it is a bookstore…”
GOD bless Gabriel’s stomach and his “love” for Restaurants. I can understand him very well. That is Taurus weakness LOL.
Can’t wait to watch this movie. It seems it will have romance too, which every Byrneholic likes.

  3. Thanks for retweeting the CBC news tweet that Brian Gleeson and Gabriel Byrne spotted in Hawkesbury, Ontario yesterday. It is a small town halfway between Ottawa and Montreal. Death of a Ladies Man now filming in rural Ontario, one hour away from my home! Very exciting. Can’t wait to see this film.
