It’s a wrap! For Gabriel, that is.

Shooting for this new series is finishing up in London and Cardiff soon. And it is reported that Gabriel’s work is complete! So now we will wait to see when the series will be released and keep eyes open for articles and production pics until then. Waiting is always the hardest part, but it will be wonderful to see Mr. Byrne on our television screens again, so wait we will!

Shared by Byrneholics on Facebook, here are two pics from the London shoot to tide you over for awhile:

This series is filming all over the place! Bristol. Bath. Wales. The UK has our man and they are not going to give him up without a fight, apparently!

Bristol Live: War of the Worlds Filming begins in Bristol

A film crew took over a number of streets in the Eastville area on February 26 to begin for the first leg of a three-week shoot the new TV series.

Residents living in certain roads have been asked to move their cars to the nearby Tesco in exchange for a gift card to help the film’s design team achieve a “post-apocalyptic” feel in Bristol.

Gloucestershire Live: It’s the war of the War of the Worlds

Award-winning actor Gabriel Byrne, who came to prominence in the film the Usual Suspects, will star in a re-imagining of The War of the Worlds, the timeless story by H.G. Wells.

Elizabeth McGovern of The Wife and Downton Abbey will also be starring in the series which will broadcast on FOX in more than 50 countries and feature a host of familiar faces.

The novel has inspired many dramatisations over the the last century and in 1938 a radio programme in the US terrified listeners who thought the fictional Martian invasion was real.

So don’t be surprised if you see alien spaceships blasting bits of Bristol to smithereens over the next three weeks as Urban Myth Films will be in the city filming stunt scenes at the Bottle Yard.

“Emotional, cinematic and rooted in character, it is a unique marriage of human drama and the best science fiction,” say the promoters.

“This is a story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances – but they are more than just victims in a brutal war. For, as we will come to realise, the aliens’ savage attack on earth is not arbitrary.”

Penarth is in the south of Wales, on Cardiff Bay. It is a gorgeous seaside resort and I want to go there now!

There will be alien destruction in Bristol

Urban Myth Films’ epic new reimagining of War of the Worlds is the latest major TV series to begin filming in Bristol. The sci-fi tale, based on the timeless story by H.G. Wells, began the Bristol leg of its UK shoot this week and will use the city’s locations for three weeks, assisted by Bristol Film Office.

From the press release:

As alien ships appear in the sky, the survivors ask a burning question – who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction? Emotional, cinematic and rooted in character, it is a unique marriage of human drama and the best science fiction. This is a story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances – but they are more than just victims in a brutal war. For, as we will come to realize, the aliens’ savage attack on earth is not arbitrary: its seeds are being sown before our very eyes…

War of the Worlds is set to debut later this year, broadcasting on FOX in more than 50 countries across Europe & Africa and on CANAL+ in France.

Chance & Counters is located in Bristol, England and their website tells you everything you need to know about the board games, food, and drink on offer. Gabriel chooses the most interesting places to hang out, doesn’t he?

There is no official promotional imagery for this series yet, but it won’t be long now. As noted above, the series is set to air later this year, so stay tuned for more info! star

  1. Thank you Stella for sharing these lovely Gabriel sightings in England and Wales. Nice that he seeks out these quaint places to connect with the real world while filming this post-apocalyptic series. The bookstore sign resonates with the times and the film.

    • There are more pics of Gabriel hanging out after shooting, as it turns out! I will have to write a Byrne-ing News Addendum! ;-)

I’ve used that bookstore sign on my political Twitter account several times. It always gets a sigh and nod from those who see it…so I thought it would be perfect for War of the Worlds! LOL.

    • Hi, Martin!

I have not heard of anything special planned so far, but I’m sure Gabriel’s friends and family have something up their sleeves for this very important birthday!

Here at the website we are gearing up for the Holiday Season, but right after that I’m sure a big birthday celebration will be the next project.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for ways to celebrate Gabriel’s 70th? Please share if you do!

Thanks for writing and visit us later to see what’s cooking! Stella <3
