Gabriel Byrne’s new memoir, Walking With Ghosts, will be published in the UK and Ireland by Picador Books in November, 2020.

Here is the first “book signing” for it: a virtual literary festival in one of my favorite places in the world: Dingle, Ireland!

From the Irish Times:

Following a hugely successful inaugural festival in 2019, Dingle Lit is delighted to announce a wonderfully eclectic mix of authors and events for their 2020 Literary Festival, which will take place from November 19th-22nd. Dingle from a Distance will be a selection of live on-line events celebrating writers from Ireland and abroad, poetry, theatre and creative writing workshops.

The distinguished line-up features actor Gabriel Byrne and his forthcoming memoir Walking with Ghosts as well as New York Times bestseller Brit Bennett and her novel exploring race and identity The Vanishing Half. . .

Dingle Lit 2020 will be a largely online festival, with the committee making the brave and bold decision to host live events on the Dingle Lit website. There will be a small number of hybrid events where a small audience can attend and will be streamed online.

Festival Director, Sheila O’Reilly says of the forthcoming festival:

“With the Dingle Literary Festival going ahead, albeit online, we can fulfill our aims of championing books and bringing authors and readers together. Going online also offers the opportunity of reaching a global audience and if book lovers cannot come to Dingle, we can bring a little bit of Dingle to them. We look forward to being a bright shining light of books and authors over a dark November weekend”.

From the Dingle Literary Festival Website:

To pre-register for events and for more information and the full festival line up, visit Dingle Literary Festival online.

And I did that, so now I’m registered for Gabriel’s conversation with Mia Colleran on Friday, November 20! And, as far as I can tell, ALL of these virtual events are FREE, and there are tons of authors participating in this festival, so explore and see who else tickles your fancy.

I know, I know. No one tickles ours like Gabriel Byrne, but still. wink

Here’s my “golden” ticket, so I have a place at the table:

The book cover is mesmerizing, isn’t it?

Have you pre-ordered your copy yet? No? It is important to support our local booksellers if we can, so if yours has an online ordering service, use that. If not, then head off to Amazon or whichever mega-store you use for your books and get it there.

As Gabriel said in his video greeting to us, those who have read his previous memoir, Pictures In My Head, will find some familiar themes here, but he goes deeper into some issues and I am sure there are stories and insights that will be entrancing and unique to this new book.

I can’t wait to read it. heart

Here are a few of my pics from my magical trip to Dingle in 2014.

Can’t you taste the salt air and feel the breeze? Unforgettable.

Thank you Stella for the announcement! My grandparents were born on the Dingle peninsula (Ventry and Murreigh) so that part of Ireland is near and dear to my heart.

Dear Stella, I have the same feelings as my fellows on these pages. I am very anxious to subscribe, if it is possible for me living so far away. Of course, I shall try to find this in my country. It is a wonderful new thing. Thanks for this news. From Argentina, all my feelings.
