This lovely black and white photograph comes to us from the vault of photographer Terry O’Brien, who kindly shared it on Twitter.

Thanks to the accomplished detective skills of Byrneholic Violetta, we know a bit more, because she discovered the Dublin Shakespeare Society’s website. Thanks, Violetta! heart

Gabriel Byrne and Myles Dungan in
Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, 1974

The called-out text below:

The 1974 production of Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead featured Gabriel Byrne and Myles Dungan as the eponymous leads. Gabriel continued to star for the Society in a number of productions before setting out on the distinguished professional career that he continues to enjoy, at an international level.

On the website of Myles Dungan, historian and broadcaster, you will find information about his books, historical tidbits, and other cool stuff. He’s had quite a career himself in the years since trodding the boards with Gabriel!

  1. Very interesting. Nice photo too!

Thank you very much for sharing.

  2. I love these glimpses of Gabriel Byrne in his early years of teaching school during the day, and learning his craft by night in amateur and then professional theatre. Keep ’em coming Stella!

    • I do have a few more of these gems, but I need to do the research on them before sharing with everyone. Glad you are enjoying these blasts from Gabriel’s past! <3
