ZeroZeroZero, director Stefano Sollima’s take on the explosive book by Roberto Saviano, becomes available on Amazon Prime US this Friday, March 6.

There are eight episodes coming our way and, if this series works like other Amazon Prime Originals, all episodes will drop at once.

So don’t expect to see me next weekend at all!

Don’t wait for me, Mr. Byrne. I’m watching you on TV this weekend. wink

Initial reviews, from critics and users, have been uniformly positive, although most only address the first two episodes. However, American audiences know Stefano Sollima from his recent work, including the excellent Gomorrah and the nerve-wrackingly violent and potent Sicario: Day of the Soldado, so we have some idea of the treat he has in store for us. And with a colossal international cast including Andrea Riseborough, Harold Torres, Tchéky Karyo, and Dane DeHaan, and shooting locations that span three continents, the treat looks more and more enticing.

Not content to rehash the old stories about the drug trade, and using Saviano’s book as the template, this series takes a hard look at the global business of buying and selling illegal substances, the families and cartels involved, and the methods used to launder the money and clean up the process so that everyone can benefit. Except not everyone makes it out alive, of course. As another series of which I am fond notes, quoting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet: “These violent delights have violent ends.”

The IMDB synopsis is startlingly brief:

A shipment of cocaine is smuggled from South America to Europe.

Well! We will see the beginning of this journey on Friday.

Finally, I have a bad feeling about this, but there is no way to be sure, so let’s watch and see what happens.

  1. This series starts here in Germany only on 26.03. every Thursday with 2 episodes. I am already very curious what to expect. It will certainly be a gripping story. Have fun and excitement for all of us!

    • I will probably not say much about the series until more people have seen it. I am really excited about it! Sollima is a very good director, even though the subject matter he chooses is not something I’m interested in most of the time. He makes me want to watch!

No news about in Argentina. Of course we have not Amazon Prime, so I don’t know how will I be able to watch the series….

    • The announcement says:

“The series premiered on 14 February 2020 on Sky Atlantic in Italy.

It will be released in its entirety on 6 March 2020 on Prime Video in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Spain.

ZeroZeroZero will premiere on 9 March 2020 on Canal+ in France, and on 26 March 2020 on Sky Atlantic in Germany and Austria.”

Argentina does not have Prime Video? Are you sure? The announcement says Latin America.

I hope you are able to see it sometime soon. <3

I was mistaken. Argentina yes has Prime Video but it is not free.
    Thanks for your info <3

  4. This appears to be different than most programs in the genre -Narcos, Narcos Mexico, etc which I confess are not my cup of tea. From what I have read so far, Zerozerozero spends more time with character development, and the connections between the different crime families in Mexico, America and Europe. As is commom with Byrne’s projects, there will be something to learn while being enthralled.

    • Yes. Saviano (author of the book) is very interested in enlightening people about the corruption going on all around us, and Sollima (writer/director) is interested in characters as much as plot. So this should not be the typical drug war massacre movie, although it looks like many won’t survive the festivities over these eight episodes! Headlines in the USA have lately been rife with references to cocaine, human trafficking, and money laundering, so it might be fun to see some FICTION about these issues. ;-)
