Gabriel Byrne’s Virtual Book Tour of the USA continues!

And do check the Interviews Page for updates. I add new interviews–video, audio, and print–almost daily to that page!

Harvard Bookstore: Video

Harvard Book Store’s virtual event series welcomes Golden Globe–winning, internationally renowned actor Gabriel Byrne for a discussion of his highly anticipated memoir, Walking with Ghosts. He will be joined in conversation by acclaimed, bestselling novelist Colum McCann, author of the National Book Award–winning novel Let the Great World Spin.

This conversation took place on January 26, 2021.

Politics and Prose: Video

Since 1984, Politics and Prose has been one of the premier bookstores in Washington DC, offering almost daily author events like this one recorded on January 19, 2021, as well as a great coffee and wine bar.

Here Gabriel is in conversation with Roddy Doyle, the author of ten acclaimed novels, including The Commitments, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha (winner of the Booker Prize) and, most recently, Love, in addition to several collections of stories. Roddy is also on the board of Fighting Words in Ireland (“Fighting Words provides free tutoring and mentoring in creative writing and related arts to as many children, young adults and adults with special needs as we can reach”). He lives in Dublin.

This program was part of the bookstore’s “Dublin Voices” series, a collaboration between Politics and Prose Bookstore, the Embassy of Ireland, Solas Nua, and Global Irish Studies.

City Arts and Lectures Public Radio: podcast

“Gabriel Byrne in conversation with Steven Winn” was recorded on January 12, 2021. City Arts made this recording available for free to everyone and I downloaded it for the Byrne Archive. You can thank them by making a tax-deductible contribution to support public radio in the USA, an important service we really need!

Free Library of Philadelphia: video and podcast

Gabriel Byrne in conversation with musician and novelist Wesley Stace, author of Misfortune, By George, Wonder Kid and most recently Out Loud, with dancer and choreographer Mark Morris. You may also know Mr. Stace as the musician and songwriter John Wesley Harding. This conversation was recorded January 21, 2021.

Visit the Free Library of Philadelphia for a wide array of author event podcasts, made available to you for free, as their name would suggest.

Wait, there is more!

The Irish Times: Winter Nights

I hope so, anyway. During the week of January 25, The Irish Times presented their virtual celebration Winter Nights: A festival of conversation, culture and ideas. Gabriel joined Hugh Linehan on the last evening, January 29, to discuss his new book, among other topics. Will we see or hear this event? We might, so stay tuned. Here are some reactions from the lucky virtual audience, including one of the organizers for the event:

The Center for Fiction

Finally, Gabriel will be in conversation with author Lily King at Brooklyn’s The Center for Fiction, on Thursday, February 11, at 7:30 PM EST US.

As noted below, your ticket includes a copy of the book!

Two authors: Gabriel Byrne and Lily King

Actor Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects, End of Days, In Treatment) will be joined by award-winning author Lily King (Writers & Lovers, Euphoria) to discuss Byrne’s highly anticipated memoir Walking with Ghosts. In it, Byrne conjures a unique portrait of his Irish childhood and his remarkable journey from messenger boy and factory laborer to Hollywood and Broadway success. Weaving between recollections of an Irish upbringing and reflections on stardom, Byrne provides a funny and heartbreaking tale that pays homage to the people and environments that shaped his life and career.

Tickets include a copy of Walking with Ghosts. Due to the popularity of this event, we have run out of signed bookplates.

Presented in partnership with Irish Arts Center

Is this the end of Gabriel’s Virtual US Book Tour? I don’t know. Somehow, I don’t think it is, so do stay tuned. If he pops up virtually anywhere else, I will let you know. Until then, keep reading! heart

  1. Hey Stella ! Thanks for these. I just watched Gabriel’s talk with Colum McCann (one of my favourite authors). What a lovely conversation between two Dublin-born gents. I’m going to spread these interviews over the next few days so I can truly enjoy the insights of this erudite and genial man.

  2. I think I would ask is it tougher to write (the novel, now) when we don’t really get to sit in cafes with muffins and cappuccino, with others near to stop and talk to? Feel free to steal my question.. it’s ok.

  3. DORA BARALIA

DEAR STELLA: Thanks for all this news and videos of our dear GABRIEL. Really it is wonderful to have access to all these, and the different experiences and dialogues about his book. Really it will be wonderful to have it in my hands … I wait until that is possible–very soon. Thanks again for all the news. All my feelings. I am very grateful for all of this …
