This past year has been a great year for Irish films, for friends and colleagues of Gabriel Byrne, for intriguing projects that demanded more than usual from their audiences, and for movies in general, in this “we think we are over it” post-pandemic season.

And it’s also a great year for a short animated film based on lovely story by an Englishman.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse, based on the beautiful and moving book by Charlie Mackesy, and starring our favorite Irishman as the philosophical and slightly shy Horse, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film!

Variety brings us the announcements this morning:

Best Animated Short Film

“The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse,” Charlie Mackesy and Matthew Freud

“The Flying Sailor,” Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby

“Ice Merchants,” João Gonzalez and Bruno Caetano

“My Year of Dicks,” Sara Gunnarsdóttir and Pamela Ribon

“An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It,” Lachlan Pendragon

Read the article for more on The Banshees of Inisherin, up for awards in multiple categories (including nods for all three actors), The Irish Girl, nommed for Best International Feature Film, and for the intriguing news that Ana de Armas (Gabriel is working with her on Ballerina now) and Andrea Riseborough (his daughter in the series ZeroZeroZero) are both up for Best Actress!

The 95th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC. More news as it happens!

SORRY I am late because of my work but I am ever present. Dear Stella, I want your health to stay good. Wonderful, all the information about our dear Gabriel. What excellent words of Mr. Basil. Really Gabriel is a presence mysterious, and enigmatic and attractive too. What channel is the best to see him: NETFLIX OR Amazon Prime? I don’t want to miss anything about him. And now the explosive couple with Keanu Reeves. My God–so hard. He looks so tired and thin but always attractive. The fame of a great man who obtains what he wants. EXCELLENT the expression. A Man who makes decisions in his own life is so beautiful. You have the perfect words for him. Thanks Stella for these wonderful photographs. You are the Best. I am very happy to know that The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse has been nominated. What a great Nomination for Gabriel. All my feelings for you, Great Friend. The best for you always.

    • Dora, thanks for your lovely comments, as always. The best place to find Gabriel’s movies and TV series is Amazon Prime. They have the largest selection, I think. Some are free if you are a Prime member. Others you can rent or buy. And you can also purchase DVDs from them–but make sure you are in the right REGION for the DVD so it plays on your DVD player. Netflix has some Gabriel movies, and you can also find him on other streaming services as well. If you visit his entry at the Internet Movie DataBase (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000321/) and click on one of his films, WHERE you can watch is listed there. So that might help you find his movies. These resources are all very USA-focused, of course. Sorry about that! All the best to you in this New Year, my friend! <3

  3. 5 stars …Loved the movie Murder at Yellowstone City, rented it on roku,
watched it twice, which is a habit of mine with most films I see,
1st is looking for the ‘wow’ factor, and 2nd time I watch, to see how things were done with the actors. and scenery.
I’m eagerly waiting for Death of Ladies Man,
wonder where will it come to, HBO, Netflix, AmazonPrime? anyone know?
